Tip: About Chinese Spring Festival:
The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. All people living away from home go back, sharing their work and life in the last year, expecting their plan and goal in the New Year.
Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon(Pingyin: Xin Yue;Chinese:新月)on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon(Pingyin: Man Yue;Chinese:满月)15 days later. The 15th day of the new year is called the Lantern Festival(PingYin: Yuan Xiao Jie;Chinese:元宵节), which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.
Of Spring Festival, the most important days are Chinese New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Lantern Festival.
During the daytime of New Year’s Eve, we make dumplings and prepare family reunion dinner and when darkness falls, all family members will have family reunion dinner together. After dinner, the elders will give children red envelopes as gifts, when the climax of New Year’s Eve comes. And then we Chinese put on Spring Festival couplet and goalkeeper close the door and do not open it until the morning of New Year’s Day.
On New Year’s Day, the younger generation pays a New Year call to elders and elders will give them red envelopes in return which they have prepared ready before.
On Lantern Festival Day, which marks the end of our celebration of Chinese New Year, we eat rice glue balls and visit lantern displays.
